Illustration Friday: Afterwards

I don’t know why I have Death pondering this situation. I think I was hoping for something clever to arise, but bedtime is looming and I have to get to sleep.

The Race is On

by Kirk on November 2, 2010

I went to the AARP website last night in a last minute effort to understand the candidates better. It took a long time for each page to load and the questions directed at the candidates dealt primarily on Social Security for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, that seemed to be their only concern.

The pages took so long to load I lost the connection. I chuckled to myself about this because I got this image in my head of some ancient individual at a computer with a multitude of ailments volunteering to run the website hitting keys with one finger only and having to look up at the screen after every word he types in then falling asleep after venting his frustration at his misspelling of the word income.

Since the baby’s arrival it seems the television is on much more and since we don’t have cable we get to see campaign ads ad nauseam. Elderly persons and the topic of Social Security have been used by both candidates running for Governor of Ohio. It  seemed like they tried to one up each other with the most pathetic and vulnerable looking elderly person they could find.

I’ll admit that I don’t know how the Governor of a state can affect the distribution or privatization of Social Security but I hope something is done soon or by the time I can retire the whole system will be bankrupt.

I’m curious to see who will come out a winner after today, some political party, an individual, or the people from the State of Ohio. I’m hoping it is the people.

Happy Halloween!!!

by Kirk on November 1, 2010

This is my first Halloween with a child so my responsibilities changed dramatically. My mother in-law made an amazing costume for Lilly.

This year we ended up rolling over to my sister in-law’s house where I helped pass out candy to the trick- or- treaters with my brother in-law KC…

Here he is demonstrating his best efforts at being intimidating.

Meghan took Lilly around the neighborhood accompanied by her sisters and her nieces.

Since I’m growing my hair out again for Locks of Love I decided to go as the character- Tony, from The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus.

First, I needed to make the mask. I bought some wire from Pat Catan’s and made the mold.

Then, I added a thin layer of Sculpey.

I fired it in the oven and added several layers of acrylic paint to end up looking like this…

I terrified or freaked out both children and adults with this mask and my antics, so for me, I consider the costume a success.

Lilly agrees.

The three best costumes I saw that night by the younger revelers were, the Marvel character Deadpool, a soldier’s fatigues done in multi-colored duct-tape, and a young girl dressed as Leah from The Empire Strikes Back.

On Halloween day after an awful night of terrors brought on by my little dark eyed demon child, I wished my nephew Mason a Happy Birthday, did some chores, doodled, and took some pics. Here we have…

Lillian, using her physic powers or what some would call, The Force, to get her mother’s milk, most sinister. Next we have…

Twiggy interrupted from his dirt nap.

Yes, it was a kooky and wild Halloween weekend. I hope you all are safe and sound.

Love,

Me
