Illustration Friday: Messenger

by Kirk on December 30, 2011

Wow, it has been a long time since I posted something on Illustration Friday and boy did I miss it. This week’s topic was Messenger and immediately I thought of Mercury. Then I thought of how much everything has changed in the last few decades.

I did some thumbnails of a foot race between email, twitter, facebook and Mercury. I added snail-mail, word of mouth and the telephone as an added methodology for giving someone a message.

Illustration Friday: Stay

by Kirk on July 14, 2011

This weeks topic for IF, Stay. Immediately I think of the command for a dog; sit, stay, roll over, shake. I flexed my brain a bit and came up with the image above.

The desire to make love stay even when a heart longs for another, we’ll smother it; seclude it, trap it, and inflict our will so we can keep that familiar love for ourselves. Fear, doubt, insecurity, and desperation drive us to extreme lengths where that love is no longer reciprocated  or genuine.

Illustration Friday: Remedy

by Kirk on July 8, 2011

“It took on this occasion a double dose to recall me to myself; and alas! six hours after, as I sat looking sadly in the fire, the pangs returned, and the drug had to be re-administered.”

Illustration Friday: Launch

by Kirk on June 24, 2011

This cartoon is based on a doodle I did along time ago that I tucked away in my files.

UPDATE: I found the original concept. I like the rooster in this one better, and I’m not hot on the look of penguin character. I do however, like that he is holding his stomach as if to barf. It just isn’t playing well in the image.

If I decide to draw this over. I will either drop that action for him or “push it” in a better way.

This is a good lesson for my wife. Honey, are you awake? This is why I hold onto my little scraps of papers with my doodles. I did this 2 yrs ago while I was taking minutes for a meeting at work. 2 yrs later this concept is revisited for an Illustration Friday submission. Was there any financial compensation for holding onto this piece of paper for two years? No! But, who knows what the future holds and for that reason alone it is important to keep good records. Just in case.

Now, get off my back about the paper. Kidding, I love you sweetie.

Illustration Friday: Shadows

June 10, 2011

I love this week’s topic for Illustration Friday – Shadows. As an adult shadows no longer carry such fright as they did when I was a child. The topic flooded my brain with memories of childhood. My siblings, our neighbor Lindsay, and I would spend our summer vacation nights playing hide-n-go seek. I’d use the shadows to [...]
